Job Summary: The Englewood Village Farms Sr. Farm Steward manages a network of urban farms led by a collective of Black and Brown farmers. The network is growing a local food system that further builds farms, producers, and various food-related businesses across the 59th Street corridor.
Job Description:
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage and provide support and leadership to the Englewood Village Farmers.
Using organic growing practices, oversee, direct, coordinate, and perform the farming duties at Englewood Village Farm Sites.
Supervise, direct, train, and evaluate assigned farm staff.
Work with the Sr. Program Steward and Englewood Food Sovereignty and Wellness Steward.
Facilitate farm meetings and monitor participation and attendance.
Prepare and monitor annual farm budgets.
Monitor retail income process and track all expenditures.
Evaluate and purchase new equipment to increase efficiency with Sr. Site Steward.
Support partnerships with other institutions with common interests in agriculture, health, etc., and work with other farmers to build relationships and strengthen the local food system.
Provide oversight and maintenance of all farm records.
Evaluate farm programs and ensure that the farm follows all statutory and contractual requirements, that staff observe and administer policies, and that farm operations accomplish goals.
Develop and update all program policies and procedures to ensure best practices are followed, documented, and passed on.
Help recruit farmers to become members of the EVF collective.
Collaborate with the ECLT (LAND TRUST) and EFSN (FOOD SOVEREIGNTY) Stewards to build partnerships in land and food security needs.
Partner with all team members to ensure duties are conducted to ensure the success of the organizational strategies.
Collaborate and support the EVM Steward in providing produce and products from the farmers.
Research and solicit grants.
Maintain farm site design and safety with Farm consultants.
Order supplies and materials; approve and submit purchase orders.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree or 3-5 years of direct experience
PREFERRED SKILLS
Strong computer skills.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Highly customer-focused and friendly.
Team player with a strong desire to work in a community setting.
Highly responsible and understand the urgency associated with community work and excellence in the services provided.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift to 20 pounds or above at times.
Have reliable transportation.
